Windows Small Business Server 2008 is here and in production. More organizations are starting to migrate from Windows SBS 2003 to 2008.  Interestingly, before you dive into deep-end there are small things to look out for in preparation to move to Windows Small Business Server 2008. You would need to raise the functional level of your SBS 2003 forest.

On the SBS 2003 Server, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Domains and Trust.

 In the console pane, right-click Active Directory Domains and Trusts, and then click Raise Forest Functional Level.

 In Select an available forest functional level, click Windows Server 2003, click Raise, and then click OK in the warning dialog box.

I got a call from a friend whose computer screen rotated some 90 degrees and he wanted to know how to fix this problem?

I informed him to action as follows: Right Click desktop – go Properties – Settings – Advanced – (look there for anything relating to Screen Rotation Tab). I am really not 100% sure on this one. As I lastly worked on a similar problem back in 2005

Problems Encountered: Backup Has Not Been Running for a While:Suddenly, no backups are going through and your backup status is on HOLD and the last result status is

Well, you wonder why this happened?  Normally this occurs when the backup server was ungracefully shutdown while the backup job was in session.  

To work around this problem, follow these steps.

Open up Backup Manager – Quick Start – Click on Job Status Option – Right Click  – the Job whose status is on Hold – Select Ready and the backup will resume again.
